My Day at Los Gatos Little League Opening Day

Updated: Apr 16

Recently, I had the privilege of photographing the Opening Day festivities for Los Gatos Little League on March 16th 2024, and it was an experience I'll never forget. Thank you to Chad Kutting, the league President and Michelle Nielsen, VP of Information, for asking me to shoot this well loved and memorable event that happens once every year.

Unfortunately my day started off rough as I was running late from another family sporting event prior, but I managed to get there, 10 minutes after the agreed time. Once I arrived, I made my way to Baggerly field, through the crowd of families and players and onto the field with my camera in hand. I had arrived just as the processions had already started. As teams were making their way out to the field, I couldn't help but notice the excitement radiated from the players, parents, and volunteers alike. This wasn't just any ordinary event; it was a celebration of community, camaraderie, and the timeless joy of this town's favorite pastime.

One of the highlights of the day was the Opening Ceremony, a heartwarming display of tradition and unity. As the national anthem echoed across the field and the American flag billowed in the breeze, I felt a swell of pride in being a part of such a meaningful event. Watching as players from each division paraded onto the field, their team banners held high, I was reminded of the importance of community and coming together in pursuit of a common goal.

Throughout the day, I had the opportunity to interact with players, parents, and volunteers, each sharing their own stories and experiences with me. From the nervous excitement of first-time players to the seasoned wisdom of league veterans, every conversation left me feeling inspired and grateful for the opportunity to be a witness to this cherished tradition.

In the end, as I packed up my gear and bid farewell to my friends in the community who were volunteering at the event, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the role that photography had played in allowing me to capture the magic of the day. From the crack of the bat to the roar of the crowd, these are the moments that remind us of the power of sport to unite, inspire, and uplift us all. And for that, I am eternally grateful for the community I've grown to love and appreciate.
